How evangelicals and Witnesses are alike

both believe in the inerrancy of the bible (psalms 12:6, 119:89, proverbs 30:5-6, 2 timothy 3:16-17, 2 peter 1:20-21, rev 22:18-19) and in their absolute correct interpretation.both believe that the other is apostate (2 thessalonians 2:3-4).both believe that the others doctrine is influenced by the devil (genesis 3:1-15, john 8:44).both believe the other is condemned for their false beliefs (2 peter 2:1-3, 1 timothy 4:1-3, 2 timothy 2:16-19, hebrews 6:4-8).neither would darken the door of the others sanctuary, for fear of contamination.both would avoid casual association (proverbs 13:20, 1 corinthians 5:11, 15:33), and certainly would not marry the other (2 corinthians 6:14).both believe that armageddon is imminent and look forward to the purified world afterwards.both consider that the highest form of charity is to convert another.

Hey godrulz I can see how passionate you are. I suppose this is why you enjoy pushing your beliefs so much. Personally I gain a quite a bit from what you say. Not because I agree with everything, but because it makes me question and look.

It takes all sorts doesn't it? Some to say things forcefully. Some to be middle of the road to remind us not to be judgemental and keep some balance. I suppose at least we know what you think (at the moment).

One size does not fit all when it comes to humans. Maybe its just as well we aren't all perfect, life would get pretty boring.

I would rather listen to your stuff sometimes than someone like DJeggnogg. If I wanted to listen to him I would resume my study and start going back to the kingdom hall.

jgnat I'm not sure this can be classed as a doctrine (but I could be wrong). Surely this is basically what the bible teaches.

figured "no other religion takes the time and effort to help people understand the bible by publishing the watchtower and the other literature" not realizing that all it does is pick and choose scriptures to suit whatever sentence they'd just written, which can be done using any book, not just the bible.

i felt foolish, after that.. .

Life is to short What you wrote made me feel so sad for you. It is disgusting how some human beings can treat other human beings. Religion or no religion. People can be self absorbed and so unaware of how others feel.

roxanesophia The fact that you are here obviously means that your time spent studying has effected you deeply. Just as it did me.

I am here still trying to get my head around it too. It wasn't just about freindship for me, it was because I enjoyed talking about the bible and had come to believe what they taught. So now I am searching again. And I now realise I may never find any truth. What I am starting to see is contradictions in everything. Religion, Science, everything!

Some days I feel quite overwhelmed by this and I have to keep reminding myself that it is God that I love. (this is very personal for me). So I try to let go of trying to control my life too much (as I know this is really an illusion) and trust more in him. This has always helped me in the past.. But is not something I do naturally.

I know where you are at. I stopped my study a few weeks ago. After 10 years and just about at the stage where I was seriously looking at getting baptized, I found it difficult too.

I got to the point where I just couldnt anymore.

So this is what I told them.

As far as I was concerned our discussions had become horrible for everyone. For me, because I really didn't want to force my ideas on people who I had grown to care about (we had been discussing NGO status with united nations, 144,000, Governing Body, possible association of Charles Russell with Masons, and shunning). And I could see what I was saying was making them very unhappy.

I could no longer pretend that I wanted to hear what they were telling me because I didn't agree or believe any of it anymore. It wasn't anything personal with them, in fact I had come to consider them as friends. It was totally about me not having any faith in the Watchtower Society. There was great relief on both sides. And I don't regret it at all.

It's Mothers Day and JW's Are Out In Full Force

the jw's make a concerted effort to get out in the field service magazing peddling work just to shit all over your day of celebration.. i was out getting mothers day flowers for my roomie this morning, and saw literally gobs and gobs of jw's working the area.. .

happy mother's day to all you mothers :).

My partner pointed something out to me the other night about JWs targeting mothers at home. He said they are easy pickings because sometimes they are often lonely and sometimes starving for adult company and conversation.

What better reason to be out there on Mothers day. The day that many many mothers are down in the dumps. Get them when they are vulnerable.

Sex at 14?

hello all.... some of you have been following our story from the beginning - and even those of you who haven't should be able to relate to my quandary.... last week my 14 year old son told me he no longer wants to be a jw.

we laboured over telling his jw dad all week.

well, on friday night he finally came clean.. but in a bizarre and unexpected twist, after having sex with his girlfriend for the very first time - in his father's home that very afternoon.

I remember that feeling four years ago when my 14 year old daughter revealed this to me. I wanted to cry (and did). She was far too young to be doing that. Not only that, but as an adult you just know that there is nothing good about it. It is not respecting yourself or anyone else.

I don't have any good advice to give you (wish I did), as my daughter is still sexually active and lives with her boyfriend.

Just wanted to share that I understand how you feel.

with modern science looking at the construction of the human body they have found some organs that are no longer necessary for function, and believe they are carry overs from evolution.

with this in mind, and potential flaws in our design, if we were created by an all knowing, highly advanced god, should we not have been "built" better?.

Undercover apostates...

i've observed some forum users here that claim to be active witnesses (even claims to be ministerial servants or elders) while duplicitously supporting apostates online.

my contention is this; why attend meetings and/or participate in the preaching activity when the second you divulge your apostate thinking into the congregation, you'll be disfellowshipped?

while this action taken may seem to be harsh, the outworking of events wouldn't be much different in one of christendom's churches.

Counselled on chatting to a study!

hey all, i'm new to posting, but i've lurked for a while.

quick intro: i'm a 25 yr old guy, brought up a jw, strayed for a while, then got baptized convinced it was the best thing for me, the rest of the world is satanic, etc.

i overcame that ridiculous belief and i know the truth about "the truth" but my friends and family are all deep into the cult so leaving is a huge risk that i'm not willing or ready to take.

Its not a silly problem and you arent stumbling anyone. It is just their ridiculous way of controlling people and their lives. I am sure you will get plenty of helpful insight and understanding here.

it was a beautiful, sunny day.

i was in the supermarket doing an early morning shop when i see an old friend of the family, a jw sister.. she asked me if i'd gone to the memorial and i told her no.

she said that the end is so close what with all the earthquakes and brother truthseeker, you need to come back to jehovah otherwise you will die and so will your children.

You're right. I didn't answer many of your questions. I've just been pretending to answer them. Now I'm done answering these ridiculous off-topic questions. You and others here have hijacked the OP's thread, a thread to which I posted in keeping with the thread topic, "You'll lose your life and that of your children if you don't come back." Are you really trying to tell me that you won't know this until the governing body tells you? Really???? You must be waiting with anticipation to find out from the WTS if you are doing it properly.

No DJegnogg....you don't answer questions that really show what you are doing because you can't. Just use me as an excuse to run away and badger people on other threads with your preaching and justifying. They were pretty simple questions that required...Yes or NO answers...how hard were they? they made you run for the hills didn't they? I would guess that you have an aversion to lying, which I must say is a credit to you.

I suppose at least we can see that you are not a blatantly dishonest person. Just a brain washed one.
